Teotihuacan tickets and entrance fee

Two hundred and ten pesos gets you through the gate, and the Avenue of the Dead does the rest. Buying a Teotihuacan ticket is simple. Knowing when a tour has already paid for it saves you money and a queue.

Teotihuacan is run by INAH, Mexico's National Institute of Anthropology and History. It sells one ticket for the whole archaeological zone, at the gates and on its official channels. There is no timed entry and no separate pass for each pyramid.

The price doubled for foreign visitors in 2026, and plenty of websites still quote the old figure. Here is what you pay now, who pays less, and which tours on this site already include it.

The quick answer

The general ticket is 210 Mexican pesos in 2026. Mexican nationals and foreign residents with proof pay 105 pesos. Buy it at the ticket office at any of the five gates, and bring pesos in cash. The site opens daily from 8 am to 5 pm, last entry 4:30 pm. Most guided tours include the ticket, such as the classic day tour from $41; balloon packages do not.

How much is the Teotihuacan entrance fee in 2026?

210 Mexican pesos for a standard adult ticket. Mexican nationals and foreign residents with proof of residence pay half, 105 pesos.

INAH confirmed both rates in its March 2026 bulletin and lists them on its Teotihuacan page. Blog posts that quote 85 or 100 pesos are out of date. One ticket covers the whole zone: the Avenue of the Dead, both great pyramids, the Ciudadela and the site museums.

Who gets in for less, or pays nothing?

INAH lists children under 13, people over 60, retirees, people with disabilities, and teachers and students with a valid card. Mexican nationals and residents also pay nothing on Sundays.

In practice the senior rule runs on Mexico's INAPAM card and the student rule on a valid student card, so carry the ID and ask at the counter. Foreign tourists pay the full 210 pesos on Sundays too.

That Sunday rule has a side effect. Mexican families fill the site, the queues at the gates grow, and the avenue gets loud by late morning. For a quiet visit, go on a weekday.

Can you buy Teotihuacan tickets online?

Only through INAH's official channels. Otherwise you buy at the ticket office at the gate, and on a normal day there is no need to book ahead.

INAH says tickets are sold only at the zone's ticket offices and on its official page, and CDMX Secreta notes that online sales open only in certain seasons. Resellers who bundle the ticket with a map or an app charge more and add nothing at the gate. Carry pesos in cash: Volare, one of the balloon companies, tells its guests to pay the 210 pesos "in cash at the entrance".

What are the opening hours at Teotihuacan?

Every day from 8 am to 5 pm, with last entry at 4:30 pm. The two site museums keep shorter hours, 9 am to 4:30 pm.

Be at the gate at 8. The stone is cool, the light is soft, and the coaches from Mexico City arrive later. A guest on the early tour put it simply: book "the early access, as it gets very crowded later in the day."

Shade is scarce. The excavated stretch of the Avenue of the Dead runs for more than 2 km, and guests on the morning tour report about 4 km of walking in all. Bring water, a hat and sunscreen.

Which Teotihuacan tours include the entrance ticket?

Every ground tour on this site does. The two balloon packages leave the 210 pesos to you, in cash at the gate.

Prices are per adult on Viator. Lunch and tips are extra on most tours. On a balloon day you also buy the ticket yourself, as the balloon guide explains.

What does the ticket let you see?

The whole zone: the Avenue of the Dead, the Pyramids of the Sun and the Moon, the Ciudadela with the Temple of the Feathered Serpent, the Palace of Quetzalpapalotl and the two museums.

  • The site museum, the Museo de la Cultura Teotihuacana, just south of the Pyramid of the Sun.
  • The Beatriz de la Fuente mural museum, reached from Puerta 3 behind the Pyramid of the Moon.
  • Painted residential compounds such as Tepantitla, with its Tlalocan mural, and Tetitla and Atetelco.

Climbing is the catch. The Pyramid of the Sun has been closed to climbers since 2020, and the Moon's first platform is usually open. The details are in the climbing guide.

When is Teotihuacan most crowded?

On Sundays, holiday weekends and above all the spring equinox around 21 March, when INAH runs a special operation.

For the 2026 equinox weekend INAH opened the gates at 7 am on the Saturday, banned backpacks, big bags and drones, kept visitors off the pyramid bases and closed both museums. The equinox day in 2025 drew 36,255 visitors, the most of any archaeological site in Mexico. Unless you want the party, pick another weekend.

Security is visible on normal days too, with bag checks at every gate and staff along the avenue. The real hazards are the sun and the altitude of about 2,300 m.

Is a tour cheaper than buying the ticket at the gate?

No. Going alone costs about 330 pesos with the bus both ways and the ticket. A tour costs more and adds the guide, the ride and the ticket.

The bus from Terminal Norte costs 60 pesos each way since October 2026, so the do-it-yourself day is 120 pesos of bus plus 210 at the gate. The early access tour costs from $41 and the morning tour from $59, ticket and guide included. Our view: travellers who read up beforehand do fine on the bus, and first-timers who want the story get far more from a guide. The route is in the getting-there guide.
